Removing Front Door Glass

New 10/20/2004

I have to take out the RF door glass in both doors I have to swap mine to the new one.
Any one done this, I never have on these cars. {off floor in 96 when they were new.}
The manual is confusing on how to do it.

Clare,
I haven't done one of these in a while, but if I remember correctly, these are riveted in with 1/4" rivets. If not 10mm nuts. You will need to drill the rivets out. I think there is a channel that runs vertically in the front or back or both. You will need to pull the bolts out and move the channel. You shouldn't have to take the channel all the way out. Once the glass is loose from the regulator, you should be able to tilt the front of the glass down and lift up on the back of the glass.
When you install the new one, if these are in fact riveted, you will need two large 1/4" rivets. If you can't find them at the hardware store, any auto glass replacement facility will have them. The only tough part would be to get your hands on a "Big Daddy" rivet gun. I don't know if you know any body that works at a glass shop, but I have never seen them anywhere else. Maybe you could put the glass in and have them rivet them. Of course if these are bolted, you've got made.
I hope this helps, like I said, it's been a while since I have done one of these, but they are pretty straight forward.
