Locker Digest - Week Ending 3-27-03

new 4/10/03

Dispatched a day late, and a dollar short to V8SHO list members everywhere, it's The Non-Flammable Digest! ;)

- Frank went to fight for all of us.  Keep him, and all our brave men and women in uniform who fight in the name of freedom in your prayers, please.  For updates on the war direct from the DOD and more: http://www.defendamerica.mil/

 - There was *much* discussion on FORD this week, some of the opinions were extremely... opinionated, but at the end of it all, most of us agreed that we love our SHO's.  Our love (or lack thereof) for Ford varies greatly...

- Saturns, and even the odd AMC product were discussed.  We think the speedo pod in the new Saturn Ion is just weird.  This prompted me to go looking for a picture of said dash.  According to Saturn, they moved it to the center of the dash because 1. your steering wheel will now be "smaller and sportier" 2. you can adjust your steering wheel without blocking your view of the speedo, and 3. it just looks cooler.  I am not kidding - I couldn't make that stuff up if I tried.  <note to self: Saturn design team has been smoking somethin' funny.  Find out what it is, who supplied it, and where I can get some for the weekend.>  See it here:  http://www.2003ion.com/

- If you are going to discuss politics, money and religion , remember that they may be (nah, they WILL BE) flammable topics.  Topics that are safe: Cars, food, beer, beer, beer, food, cars, and The Non-Flammable Digest. ;)

- Best bumper sticker seen this week:  "Some days you are the pigeon.  Some days you are the statue."

- Don M. ran at Putnam Park track in Indiana for a day, and got to go our favorite speed:  Fast.

- Talk about the (be still my heart - could it be?) 4.2 liter V8SHO engine in the UK somehow got turned around, and all of a sudden we were trying to find out who had the smallest and lightest V8.  We never have figure out for sure if that 4.2 is for real, or just someone having fun with decals...

- Buffers:  Off list, it was pointed out to me that if you are going to use one, it ain't the size, it's the speed. All us girls want all y'all boys to remember that applies to a lot more than just buffers, 'k?  Actually, Don M. pointed out that it's always best to do it by hand, and that the "professionals" don't care what happens to you 5 years from now, they just want to get the job done.  This conversation has *so* many levels... ;)

- VAK questions, oil pressure problems, and heater cores generated a lot of email this week.

- Scott K. reported on installing the 26mm sway bar on a '99.  Sounds like it's a bit of work - but he did a great write up for those who are considering it.

- A direct quote from Kendall's post about the Carlisle All Ford Nationals coming up: "I was getting excited about washing and waxing the SHO"  :::sigh::: Listen,  I know y'all are true "car guys", but this really *worried* me... till I saw this picture from last year:

http://mywebpages.comcast.net/krhyne/carlisle6-02/MVC-540X.JPG

and saw *why* he's gettin' all excited... ;)

- A "mic check" brought out a whole bunch of OT information... including why a certain list member has so many kids, and so many water balloons, and how to fit 5 cats into one vehicle without traumatizing the driver or the cats too much.  We also discovered who has a basket-case Cortina, and wound up with a brief history lesson on Ford, Lotus, and how Holly learned to drive a stick in a RH drive car, but later became an ambidextrous shifter...

- Clare shared some of his excellent car pix this week during the whole Cortina discussion - he must have photos of every car ever made!

- We discovered that Holly and Steve Andriks are lefties.  (That explains a lot right there... ;)  <ducking and running!>

- Doug is selling his red '98, and Jason traded his '97 on a GM product a couple of days ago.  Are our numbers dwindling?

- There's another Kirk in town... from Arkansas, no less.  Someone help him out with his problem, OK? and y'all remember to play nice with the new kid!  ;)

- Another CamFest weekend is upon us - this time it's Illinois, hosted by Don M.  Holly posted the schedule, and it looks like lots 'o cams and lots 'o fun!  Those who go are beholden to report back to those of us who couldn't/wouldn't/didn't/can't.  Big kudos to Holly for putting together the schedule, and to Don M. for putting up with, er, hosting everyone!

- Apparently someone on our list is infected with the Klez virus. Everyone is encouraged to install and scan at least once for virii. If you are morally opposed to giving $$$ to Norton or McAfee, there is a free alternative available.  If you are morally opposed to running an anti-virus program on a daily basis, scan once to insure you are clean, and uninstall.  Remember to practice Safe Surfing - never download from someone you don't know... and never open anything 'till it has been scanned!

There ends the digest ;)
