Title: How to replace the A/C clutch on the 96 through 99 Taurus SHO.

**Note**
If you only need to re-gap the clutch , only perform the following steps, 1, 2, 3, 5 thru 11, 13, 14 and 21.

1. Disconnect battery
2. Disconnect and remove MAF and air box
3. Remove dipstick and tube.
4. Using 12 mm wrench slightly loosen but do not remove top compressor bolt.

**Note**
The A/C compressor mounting holes have slightly raised guide dowels therefore the top bolt must be loosened enough to slip lower bolts free of dowels in step 15.

5. Jack up car, place jack stands just aft of where the rear of the sub frame connects to the car
6. Remove passenger side front tire
7. Remove forward half of inner wheel well shell
8. Remove lower cowling cover under radiator, (large flat piece with Philip screws).
9. Place jack under center of sub frame to support it, do not lift car off of jack stands.
10. Remove two front sub-frame bolts.
11. Slowly lower sub-frame, watch top of engine for binding.
12. Using 3/8 inch socket wrench and long extension release tension on accessories belt tensioner and remove belt.

**Note**
A/C clutch center attaching nut should now be visible and accessible.

13. Using a flat blade screwdriver lodge the blade into the outer clutch plate face to hold from spinning, using socket wrench remove center nut from clutch plate, remove clutch plate. 
14. Remove and save small spacer washers 
15. Remove two lower compressor mounting bolts.

**Note**
Compressor should now be able to pivot on the one loosened top bolt.

15. Pivot compressor so you can access the belt wheel snap-ring.
16. Using spreading snap ring pliers remove snap-ring.
17. Using a long wood drift, lightly tap belt wheel off of compressor magnet from the rear.
18. Using spreading snap ring pliers remove magnet snap-ring.
19. Unplug and remove electro-magnet.
20. Reverse steps to reassemble.
21. Set clutch air gap at .021 to .035 using spacer washers.
