Fair Warning, Once Again

New 6/29/05

 My Friends;

 At the request of our lawyers this morning I sent to them to give to Ford a  copy of V8SHO.com on data CD. It will not be the last time. Ford has requested regular updates.

 Ford has also asked us for list server archives. (no list archives are kept, nor have there have never been list archives kept at or by the list server, nor by Mike Ivy, Timothy Wright or Larry Eck.)

Years ago I warned that Ford would be in our business looking for anything to put any of us in a bad light. That is why I cracked the whip about bad language and bad behavior when I was web master and moderator. It is not because I am or was a right wing anal control freak or religious zealot.

I don't think the top secret V8SHO handshake, our Jimmy Hoffa files or our invisible man formula were ever on V8SHO; but yes, all our collective wisdom  and humor is being archived, analyzed and scrutinized with malicious intent by the legal lackeys that work for Ford.

The list and FAQ now belong to Larry, not me. Larry's policies, not mine, are in effect. I would still however encourage folks use their own common sense before they submit their contributions to either FAQ or the list.

May I also suggest that if you do have something of value or insight to contribute RE: the class action law suit; that you send it off-list to either Larry or myself. We will get back to you ASAP.

Thank you,
Buford

Indeed, it was forecast many years ago. I know that when I was editing for FAQ, I often times had to clean up the language a bit. It's not that I'm a prude, rather far from it, however when something is put out there in www land, it's there for general consumption. I assume when editing that I have to always have it written so that anybody will read without being offended. I have never edited any articles with a concern with what Ford would think. Frankly I don't care. A select few individuals really understand the amount of time and effort that has been and will be expended to keep the website a viable resource for past, present and future owners of these fine cars. Let's take heed to Buford's advice.

Although I haven't taken the time to edit the list rules that are posted on the site, I believe my feelings have been made clear over time. I have a wide range of tolerance for many things, however, when I'm forced to throw the flag my expectation is simple. It will be recognized as something I had to do in the role that I have assumed as list moderator. You want to question my motives, feel free to do so OFF LIST. I do not condone nor will tolerate running gun battles on the list. That's not why it's here.

On a final note, for the most part during my tenure people have respected those rare times when I dropped the flag and we have moved on. I'm good with that.

Larry
