EBay - Cam Failure #495
This vehicle looks great, runs smooth and strong, handles great, but is not
perfect. There appears to be a noisy engine valve which is not effecting her
driveability or performance.

The problem is with the engine. It will start and run but won't hardly idle.
It will run at 2-3,000 rpm for a little and then quit. It will run good if you
keep your foot on the gas.

This car has motor problems and from what we were told its very common for
the SHOs to break cam shafts and that's what we feel happened to this car. We
were also told this is not a hard fix. Sometimes you can replace the cam shaft
or worse case you must replace the head. All parts are easily available and not
that expensive. We are not in the business of fixing cars that why we are
offering this car in as-is condition so someone can get a great deal.

running. I brought it into the shop for testing. Here is what was found (see
picture of diagnosis and estimated cost to repair). "Engine compression test on
3 of the front cylinders----0 PSI. Timing chain jumped and probably bent valves"
Estimate for job is about $2400.00.

3.4 Liter V8 Ford Taurus SHO engine. 99 model that suffered head damage
while having the cams welded. 45k on this engine. I owned it for 12k and used
mobil 1 every 2000 miles. I had big plans for this engine but a cheap machine
shop changed all that. Both the engine heads were damaged badly during cam
welding. This shortblock is untouched. It will come with the oil pan, front
cover, all pulleys, flexplate (flywheel), rear secondary air control valve
assembly, both exhaust manifolds, secondary air injection tubing and EGR tubing,
coolant temp sensors, water elbow, oil cooler assembly, crank position sensor,
all engine mounting brackets. The rear cylinder head will be removed unless told
otherwise. (it was not damaged like the front head)

The motor runs but the #4 cylinder is dead.

I got a good deal on it because the engine has problems, it doesn't want to
start. It does have a serpentine belt and the guy that I had bought it from was
suggesting that the alternator might have locked up and that may be why the
starter will not turn over. I'm not really sure what the problem is, it could
need a new motor or it could be a very minor problem I just don't know.

The car does need mechanical work. This vehicle is a great car for the
professional mechanic or even the weekend mechanic. The car was running, but
overheated. The engine turns over well, but does not start. Most lokely needs
new head gasket.
