4.0L V8SHO From SHO SHOP

From www.shoshop.com

4.0L LONG BLOCK - The 3.4L V8 SHO is based upon the 2.5L V6 Duratec engine found in the Contour and Cougar. It is simply a V6 block with 2 more cylinders attached. Since it is a 60 degree engine a balance shaft keeps secondary vibrations down. The block is aluminum with cast-in sleeves. The dimensions are 3.24’’ bore vs. 3.13’’ stroke. A 3.0L version of this engine is found in Taurus and the new Escape SUV. Extra 0.5L on 3.0L is achieved with bigger bore - 3.5’’. If we bore out V8 block to accept sleeves and use 3.0L pistons a displacement of 4.0L is realized. The only concern is head gasket that has to be custom made. We are currently in a process of modifying a V8 block to accept larger pistons. A custom gasket is also being made. We are expecting to see the results by the end of the year.

I plugged the number into my desktop dyno
40 more ft lbs from idle to 4k?

Maybe this is how FORD should have made the car, oh yea it would have cut into Jag sales.

With 3.4L
Desktop drag says ET was 15.786 at 89.2
0-60 7.470 sec

With 4.0L
ET would be 14.654 at 96.4
0-60 6.177 sec.

Just think ford could have done it for free, wack 1.1 sec of your ET with out blower or NOS?

Yea, that is no good. ;-)

It is not the average HP increase but the 40 extra Ft# up to 4k that makes it a monster idea.

Why is it GM made the GTP without worrying what it would take sales away from? Just think if Ford had made the V8 4.0L how many they could have sold?

Add a SHO SHOP blower and then it would be a square fight with a GTP.  Fresh pistons would permit a easy way to lower CR to permit a higher level of boost. Since Vadim is working on cams could a blower profile could be in the mix?
